It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend and partner, David Poggi, on April 23. Dave was one of three owners of TMF. He was responsible for quality and compliance. Many of our customers, suppliers, and auditors knew Dave as warm, soft-spoken, easy to work with, and eager to come to agreeable and uncomplicated solutions.
Dave joined TMF in 2000, after he and his family sold their business Model + Instrument Development Corporation (M+IND)/Seattle Limb Systems, a pioneer in lower limb prosthetics and known for the Seattle Foot. It is at M+IND where Dave met his future business partners and long-time friends Chris Wood and Eric Potts in the early 1990’s; the three were the machine shop. More than machinists, they worked together innovating, toolmaking, and developing processes and products. It was no surprise they would establish a quality machining firm in the years to come.
Dave grew up in manufacturing, working at M+IND from his high school years. Dave left briefly to pursue an education in quality assurance. Upon returning in 1994, Dave led the company’s efforts to achieving ISO 9001 certification for the company. Dave also implemented systems for functional and safety testing required for CE marking (Medical Device Directive, EU) all the products. Dave did the same for TMF, achieving certification to ISO 9001 and AS9100 soon after. This changed the company's path, propelling TMF into the world of defense and aerospace.
Dave was always most comfortable on the shop floor, and he was well-respected by our staff, who enjoyed his friendly, funny, and no-nonsense approach to quality and safety. By design, all new employees spent their day one with Dave for quality and safety orientation. He gave it with a tone of seriousness and warmth combined. He knew our machines and systems innately and thoroughly enjoyed sharing his knowledge, experience, and stories with the team.
No words can properly express our sadness at this time. TMF has lost a great partner and friend.

A testament to their commitment to quality, TMF earned a Five Star Supplier Excellence Award from Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems business for performance in 2018, their second in under ten years.
Raytheon’s IDS business instituted the annual Supplier Excellence Awards program to recognize suppliers who have provided outstanding service and partnership in exceeding customer requirements. Award candidates are judged on certain criteria, including overall quality, on-time delivery and demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement. A Five-Star recognition is the highest level of recognition a Raytheon IDS business supplier can achieve for excellence in quality and delivery performance, and TMF was 1 of 16 companies selected for this award.
